Scoring the Hand

When a player takes the exact amount of tricks that he/she bid, he gets 10 times his bid. If he wins extra tricks, he gets 1 extra point each unless he "sandbags". There is a 50 point penalty if a player wins 5 extra bags or tricks over his bids.

If a player does not make his bid, he looses 10 points for each point he bid. For example, if a player bids and wins 4 tricks, he gets 40 points. If he takes 5 tricks, he will receive 41 points with 1 bag. If he only wins 3 tricks, he will loose 40 points.

When a player bids NIL, or zero, and succeeds to take zero tricks, he gets 50 points. Then there is a blind NIL which wins 100 points. Blind NIL means the player did not see his cards before bidding which requires a special setup for online play.

Hands are typically played with the same players (table) until any player wins 200 points or more. Some games have flexible limits, set before the first hand is dealt. The default to end a game is when 8 hands are played.

There are Spades game variations which have specific playing and scoring rules. Try them all and see which ones are your favs!
